Sell Ores Mutations Tier List
Every Coating ranked by multiplier versus what it actually costs to stamp.
Coatings are the mutation layer of Sell Ores. Each Coating is a single-use Gear from the shop that stamps a permanent multiplier onto one ore until you spend an Ore Cleanser. They are not the same as Ascended flags from the Fuser or Prismatic rolls from the 25 August 2026 patch — those are separate systems documented on Mythic Ores and the August 25 update. This page ranks the six Coating mutations plus Cleanser by multiplier per Cash, because a x5 Galaxy stamp that bankrupts the account is a worse play than a x2 Crystal you can actually afford.
Buy paths and raw prices live on the Gears guide. Use this tier list to decide which stamp is worth the wallet.
S tier — Galaxy and Alien
Galaxy (x5, $1T). The ceiling. Only stamp Galaxy on an ore you will keep for days: a Floor 7 Mythic or an Ascended piece you are not about to feed into the next Fuser cycle. If the tooltip says the fuse consumes the mutation, wait. Galaxy on a Rare Iron is how trillionaires theoretically go broke; in practice nobody should Galaxy a B-tier ore.
Alien (x3.25, $100B). The realistic late-game stamp for players who can farm Floor 6–7 but are not sitting on a trillion. Alien on Voidshard or Gargantuan is the first Coating that changes hourly Cash in a way you feel without opening a calculator. Still buy Ore Cleanser the same week so you can step up to Galaxy later.
A tier — Void and Crystal
Void (x2.25, $10B). Named like the ore, not tied to it. Void Coating is the first “this is a real mutation” purchase for a stable Floor 5 wallet. Pair it with Voidshard if you like the theme; the math does not require the pairing.
Crystal (x2, $1B). Best value-per-Cash in the upper half of the shop. Doubling a Mythic you already process overnight is cleaner than stretching for Void and sitting broke through the next Floor unlock. Crystal is the Coating we point to on Money Making when someone asks “first mutation?”
B tier — Frozen and Rusty
Frozen (x1.75, $750M). A stepping stone. Fine if you dropped 750M without needing it for Floor 6, and you already own Cleanser. Skip it if Crystal is two good sessions away — the extra 0.25x from Frozen to Crystal is worth waiting.
Rusty (x1.5, $10M). Cheap enough that Floor 4 accounts can buy it, and that is the trap. x1.5 on a mid ore looks exciting and then you Cleanser it a day later for another million. Only Rust a keeper you cannot yet Crystal. Never Rust a Common you will sell this hour.
Utility — Ore Cleanser
Ore Cleanser ($1M) is not a damage mutation; it is the undo button. Rank it as mandatory insurance, not as a skippable shop row. A Cleanser is cheaper than living with Rusty on the wrong Mythic. It does not remove Ascended or Prismatic by itself — read the live tooltip, then see Pet Fusion if you meant to undo a Fuser result instead.
How mutations stack with other systems
- Drill / Speed / Luck still beat early Coatings. Stats apply to every ore; a Coating applies to one. Follow Beginner Strategy until Drill 5.
- Pets multiply Cash on the active Pet. A Galaxy ore plus Devil’s Snacc is the late-game screenshot; neither replaces the other. Roster on Best Pets.
- Fuser / Ascended / Prismatic can sit on the same physical ore as a Coating. Confirm carry-over before you stamp Galaxy pre-fuse.
- Growth Gems are timed regeneration, not mutations. Do not confuse Devil’s Growth Gem with Devil-themed Coatings — there is no Devil Coating in the shop table.
- Codes still beat shop gems. EXPANSION and PETFUSION on Active Codes are free gem Gear, not free Coatings.

Mistakes
- Galaxy on an ore queued for the Fuser without checking the tooltip.
- Skipping Cleanser.
- Buying Rusty because it is “only 10 million” while Floor 5 is unfunded.
- Treating Prismatic as a Coating you can Cleanser for a million.
- Spending PETFUSION on a Coating. It is a Devil’s Growth Gem, not a mutation stamp.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the best mutation in Sell Ores?
Galaxy at x5 is the strongest Coating. Alien at x3.25 is the best stamp most Floor 6–7 players can actually fund.
Do Coatings apply to the whole base?
No. Each Coating targets one ore. Growth Gems are the whole-base timed burst — see [Gears](/guides/gears/).
Can I remove Galaxy without Cleanser?
Not through the shop. Ore Cleanser is the intended strip. Selling or fusing the ore also removes it from that slot.
Is Prismatic a Coating?
No. Prismatic came with the [August 25 ascended-ores update](/updates/august-25-ascended-ores/). Cleanser is for shop Coatings.
Should I Coating before or after Fuser?
After, unless the tooltip says the mutation survives the fuse. Galaxy before a consume fuse is a trillion-dollar mistake.
